As you may know from reading my ‘Home’ page I am currently studying CET at the University of Derby. CET is a course designed to develop specific artistic skills in hope that one day I will be able to use them to help and aid the well-being of others. I specialise in the art pathway which means that through essays, exhibitions, studio work and reflective journals I have been able to learn about the therapeutic application of art and the positive impact it can have on peoples lives.
Although art has never really been something that really runs in my family art has always been something I have loved. Non of my siblings are particularly creative nor are either of my parents, because of this I was never really bought up with any specific artistic influences however, art has always been something my parents encouraged. I do come from a very supportive family in which my parents have always encouraged me to pursue my interests and above anything else have instilled in me that I find a career in something that excites me regardless of what it may be.
My decision to study on CET was due to the fact I found the whole concept and reasoning for such a course inspiring. A course that enabled me to realise the potential healing properties of my art form and use it to help others is something that really appealed to me. There is nothing more that I want from a future career than to wake up every morning knowing I am doing something I love and that that something is benefiting and impacting on peoples lives positively. Upon completion of my CET course my intentions are to continue with my studies and go on to do my Masters in Art Therapy potentially taking a year out in between to go travelling beforehand.
I’d like to believe I am a passionate and driven person. I am curious and like to think that my curiosity aids me well in my study as it encourages me to pursue answers to the questions I ask. In time I hope to find depth and meaning in my life and hope that in completing this course I will be able to use my art form to enrich the lives of others. Apart from art I really enjoy socialising with friends, being with my family and travelling. I do try to maintain and create a sense of balance between my uni work, work and social life this doesn’t always go according to plan but majority of the time I manage to get everything I need to done.
Thanks for visiting my website and enjoy,
Emily
